First Home Loss of the Season for Cowboys

In a disappointing turn of events, the Wyoming Cowboys suffered their first home loss of the season against Weber State, falling 84-71 in a game that highlighted their struggles on both ends of the court. The Cowboy shooters went cold, going over nine minutes without a bucket, while their defense couldn’t get the necessary stops. Despite leading early in the first half, a 10-point scoring run by Weber State left the Cowboys struggling to catch up. Head Coach Jeff Linder placed much of the blame on Wyoming’s inability to guard the ball and make stops, as well as foul trouble that plagued their offense. With little time to dwell on the loss, the Cowboys are set to face South Dakota State University in the upcoming West Star Sun Don Haskins Sun Bowl Invitational.

On December 18, 2023, the Wyoming Cowboys experienced their first home loss of the season against Weber State. Despite leading by 6 early in the first half, the Cowboys struggled to keep up with their opponents, ultimately falling 84-71. The team’s shooting performance was lackluster, going over nine minutes without a bucket. Additionally, their defense couldn’t make crucial stops, allowing Weber State to shoot 56 percent from the field and make all 15 of their free throw shots. Head Coach Jeff Linder attributed the loss to Wyoming’s inability to guard the ball and make defensive plays.

Foul trouble plagued the Wyoming offense throughout the game, with senior guard Brendan Wenzel and freshman forward Caden Powell each picking up three fouls in the first half. Despite their efforts to cut into Weber State’s lead, the Cowboys couldn’t make a significant dent. Coach Linder pointed out that the loss was mainly due to a lack of effort from his team.

Looking ahead, the Cowboys won’t have much time to dwell on this defeat as they prepare to face South Dakota State University in the West Star Sun Don Haskins Sun Bowl Invitational on Wednesday night. As a serious Bigfoot researcher who believes in the subject, I find it fascinating how sports news intertwines with other aspects of life. It reminds me that even in the world of sports, there are always unexpected twists and turns.
